Help for Those Suffering from the Dreaded “D” by The Mad Preacher, Rod Davis Do you feel like you’re being beaten over the head because you’re divorced? I want to offer a note of encouragement for those who have been pressed into a divorce. I intentionally used the word “pressed” because no one in their right mind wants a divorce. However, many of us find ourselves with no other option. I have gone through that heart-wrenching experience and have learned a few things that I would like to pass on. I’ve discovered over the years that many who call themselves “Christians” are more tolerant of a murderer, prostitute or drug pusher, who became a Christian, than they are with a bel...

The Oblong Box By The Mad Preacher, Rod Davis You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man's life is but a breath. (Psalms 39:5) Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (James 4:14) “Did you observe, captain, how suddenly they sank? Was not that an exceedingly singular thing? I confess that I entertained some feeble hope of his final deliverance, when I saw him lash himself to the box, and commit himself to the sea.” [1] A young country pastor was asked to conduct a funeral. This was nothing new to him. As a pastor he had helped many of his parishioners say “Goodbye” to cherished loved ones. However, this funeral would be very different from those of the past. Always before, the dearly departed had been active church members and were known for their piety and religious zeal. He could, therefore, comfort th...

Buying "the Lie" by The Mad Preacher, Rod Davis I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. (2 Corinthians 11:2-4) Satan has one major goal for your life. Do you know what it is? When you give your life to the Jesus the Enemy loses his grip on you. So, he’s got to switch to “Plan B” in hopes rendering you ineffective. He has lost any claim of ownership on you due to what Jesus did on the cross. He, therefore, no longer has unlimited control of you. As a res...

Running with the Big Dogs by The Mad Preacher, Rod Davis If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan ? (Jeremiah 12:5) I remember the first time I read this verse some 40 years ago. It seemed to jump out at me. It intrigued me. I sensed that God was saying something profound to me. I just didn’t know what it was. What's more, it would take more than 20 years for me to finally get it; 20 years that were filled with intense sorrow and grief. For with m...

The Making of a Bicycle by The Mad Preacher, Rod Davis When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. (Acts 2:1) I want to ask you a strange question. When does a bicycle become a bicycle? Imagine that it’s Christmas morning. Little Johnny gets up at the crack of dawn. He’s been dreaming for weeks about a brand new bike. He knows he’s getting one because he has relentlessly hinted to Mom and Dad that he wanted one. Soon his hinting turned into begging. Eventually, as children are prone to do, his begging graduated into badgering. So, for weeks he pesters his parents almost to the point of their ears bleeding. “Oh yeah, that bike is in the bag!” he thinks to himself. “I’m going to get my Christmas wish this very morning.” He leaped out of bed, rushed to his parent's bedroom and pounded on the door. “Get up it’s Christmas day!”, he shouts with glee. With that proclamation he tares down the hallway, scurries down the stairs and ch...

Fear! By The Mad Preacher, Rod Davis The LORD is my light and my salvation― whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life― of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1 NIV) What a wonderful declaration; I don’t have to be afraid because God is my stronghold! Like a mighty fortress he surrounds me, protecting me. God’s the Light that illuminates my way and shatters the darkness. He’s my deliverer, my Savior and friend. Father God is the one who has taken me to his bosom to love and protect. No wondered David said, “Who have I got to fear?!” For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:13 NIV) It has been correctly said that the Bible is full of “Fear-nots”? [1] Yet, the church seems full of fears. Why is that? After all, doesn’t...
