Easter Thoughts

                                                                      The Mad Preacher

Luke 23:46 says, Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Everything Jesus did reflected his commitment to his Father, right down to Jesus’ death. Even his last agonizing words expressed his devotion. "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." Another word in the original Greek for “spirit” is “breath”. Jesus knew that every breath, even his last breath, belonged to the Father. Jesus was totally committed. His life right down to his last breath unquestionably belonged to God.

I wonder how many of us can make such a claim and truly mean it? I’m confident that many have a certain level of commitment. However, do we possess a level of commitment that goes beyond a mere sentimental connection to God? Does our dedication go beyond Sunday mornings or the occasional giving of a bit of our finances to God? What is your level of commitment? Does it in any way reflect the same level of commitment that Christ displayed?

1John 2:6 says, "Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did." Our lifestyle will reflect the level of our personal commitment to God in much of same way it was with Christ. The definitive word in this verse is “must.” Do you claim to live in Him? If so, then you MUST seek to walk with the level of commitment that Jesus displayed. It’s not easy. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. It’s very costly. In fact, Jesus showed us at Calvary what that cost can be, but the benefits far outweigh the sacrifices. In addition, God Himself will empower you to enter into a deeper commitment with Him.

During this Easter season, as you reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross, ask yourself this question. Is my life committed to God right down to my last breath? Am I truly walking as Jesus walked? What is my level of commitment and how do I go deeper. If you sincerely seek God he will answer and give you the grace to raise your level of commitment to the place where He wants you to be.

“Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are confident of better things in your case—things that accompany salvation.” (Hebrews 6:9)
